I kind of understand where Hiiragi is coming from with giving her distance. He is worried that she is interested in him simply because he is the first boy she came across. He is trying to let her explore more and have more self determination by pulling back. I imagine he sees himself a bit like a parent pushing their kid on a bike and then slowly letting go as they ride off on their own.

It doesn’t mean that it isn’t annoying though. I look forward to having the two of them back together.
