FESS Fesshole HOLE @fesshole

We had a cappuccino machine, I thought my wife kept cleaning the crispy dried milk off the steamer spout, she thought I was doing it. A year later, after coffee every morning, we found out the cat was licking it off when we were at work.

JUST WIPE IT OFF WITH A DAMP CLOTH YOU FUCKING HEATHENS ITS NOT THAT HARD

Edit for context: I am a barista. All you have to do is have a damp cloth on hand when you finish steaming the milk to wipe down the wand. Takes maybe 30sec total, including finding and dampening the cloth before you start.

Years ago at work we had a office type coffee machine with the filter carrier you pull out and dump.

The water flow to the filter got slower and slower until it was taking forever to make a pot. I finally broke down and took it apart to clean the calcium deposits out of it.

Turned out there was a dead cockroach blocking the hole from the reservoir to the filter.

Cockroaches are notorious coffee problems. A study found that many people who drank instant and pre ground coffee were allergic to coffee actually were allergic to the cockroaches ground up in it.

Yup. I’ve seen this. Sticking to my guns on this one, mainly because I always assumed it was various bugs. It’s just a given that bugs are in our food and people’s allergies to bug poop is very common.

As a government biologist, i was kind of surprised that snoops was mainly concerned about finding evidence that specifically cockroaches exist in the for No we wouldn’t identify that. No one would cus we wouldn’t really look into what exact bug or foreign matter exists, we just care that it stays at low levels. A large part of violations we identify have to come from self reporting too.

It’s not like it’s a big deal anyway. There are bugs in our food, it happens. That’s just life lol.

If people think bugs are the worst thing they’re going to find in food, they should probably just close the internet, never look anything up and live in bliss.

Their focus didn’t surprise me, the title was literally about roaches in coffee. It anything it surprised me how in depth they went about other insects being in coffee and not just roaches.

I think if you have a cat, there’s just a point where you accept that you’ll be ingesting the odd hair or dribble or microscopic bits of poop.

Yes, of course be cautious, especially if pregnant. But an indoor cat, even if infected when adopted, won’t be contagious after 2 weeks and won’t have a way to get reinfected. Outdoor, strays, and unknown cats are obviously not inherently safe.

I’ve never read the book; what did you think of it? Did the film do a fair job of getting it across?

The book is written in phonetic Scottish, so it’s not easy to read, but it absolutely nails the atmosphere, the rawness of the setting.

The book is heavier. It has a very dark storyline that is omitted from the movie, and therefore feels more visceral. The movie is a bit more camp and jovial, but it is absolutely right, I can’t fault it, is perfect.

It’s a rare case where both the book as the movie are brilliant, but each a whole different experience. I loved the sequel to the book more than the second movie, though, as it is in the same tone, the second movie is good, but not as edgy.

So I would recommend reading it if you have the chance.

Thank you very much for the thoughtful response. I haven’t been reading nearly enough lately, and am trying to get back into the swing of it.

“Mmm, have you noticed our espressos now have an interesting nutty accent flavor?”

Yeah, that would be the addition of ‘cat anus by proxy’.

TIL there are people who don’t wipe the wand immediately while the milk is wet and wait for it to crust over.

They haven’t had to take apart one to clean. I worked as a barista and this was one of my biggest pet peeves along with steaming sugar. Just wipe clean and you can even soak it in the pitcher after rinsing it.

Maybe it was my obsessive wand purging or just luck, but I never had one clog. The heads had to be descaled manually once but that was because the owner forgot to clean the water filter. From then on I had it on the to do-list myself.

We did some weird experiments, also the cafe didn’t have the best record of taking good care of their equipment. Eventually they got their shit together and has an awesome crew now.

Food driven cats will do some work for the right bribes, at least when they feel like it. For the extra delicious treats, ours will do sit, lay down, stand/jump, shake & high five. Will have to see if I can get her to clean the milk steaming spout as well!

I’m not seeing the problem… Little guy gets a nice little snack, you get a consistently clean machine… If you’re so concerned just wipe it with a sanitizer wipe before you use it.
