Considering there arent any socialist countries today that would mean we are kinda boned.

    • I mean there’s quite a few that are at least nominally socialist, and a lot of growing socialist orgs. The socialist movement isn’t dead. But we certainly live in the era of global capitalism.

Like the closest thing to workers owning the means of production currently is coop businesses and Cuba is supporting that quite a bit but their economic model is state capitalist. Though yea, socialist orgs are definitely taking off, the local libertarian group here has never had this many members or this much success with organising.

Industrializing without help from already industrialized nations tends to be messy and horrendous for the environment! Who would’ve guessed? Its not like the country that’s been developing the most green infrastructure, energy, and industry is socialist or anything.

“hey, let’s just discharge 15,000 metric tons of chlorine from a paper mill into lake Baikal” oh yeah, totally capitalism’s fault

Its not like the country that’s been developing the most green infrastructure, energy, and industry is socialist or anything

It’s not, China is a fascist nation. And they haven’t been leading in development, their SOP is to take inventions designed in other nations and make them for cheap.

You mean the state capitalist states which disguised them self as communist. (Even Lenin said that)

Don’t personify an ideology… it needs to be translated into policy by polititians. Even through a capitalist mindset, climate change is bad for profits and drives up insurance and mitigation costs the worse it gets. All global policy makers are failing on climate action, all progress is made by smaller actors and decreasing prices of renewables.

The issue is it’s only bad for profits in the mid and long term and mostly for those who aren’t the ones making the decisions. If your profit maximizing in the short run which is what capitalism drives you to do that math isn’t going to change until it’s much too late.

Absolutely. Plus, the economic model of continuous growth is incredibly wasteful but we are addicted to it and have no tested, working alternatives. Thinking loudly about shrinking economy, population and wealth is the best way to push conservative polititians into power. (I’m talking ideology here, not a particular party in whatever your homecountry is). Building a sustainable economy based on earth’s output will be a painful endeavour, I don’t think current everyday politics is up for a change that massive. Maybe AI will give us the theory we need?

Pure communism or capitalism wont work I have more hope in mixed economy. Mixed economy is implemented in india but i want it to be implemented in a better way If the proles were in a communist environment they cant have a sense of owning and the sense of owning provides working mentality for their own profit. Completely avoiding private sector will adversely effect a system. In kerala free public schools are much better and advanced than private education sector. It@school and KITE(Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education) foster, promote and implement modernisation of educational institutions in the State of Kerala. Free softwares are used instead of proprietory softwares. Public and private in health sector are also good… (Sorry for my bad english. English is my second language)
