They’ve been together since kittens
I have two cats. Once I had a 4 houseguests staying in the living room for a week. After they left my one cat (the dumb one, obviously) didn’t recognize her sister anymore. At no point did any cat leave the premises.
Same deal with my two cats when they come back from the groomer. They went to the grommer together, they see other getting fur cut, went home together, still don’t recognize each other 😑
“Who is this new cat who looks like my brother but with shorter hair and soapy smell?”

“You went to the groomer?! You sellout! You’re not my brother anymore!”

We have two cats and our name for this phenomenon is “other brother”. As in, each cat is convinced their brother has been replaced with a doppelganger that isn’t quite right. Hence, “other brother”.
Do you respect the proper cat greeting etiquette: presenting one’s butt to the other’s nose?
I don’t see how her sniffing my butt would restore trust in her older sister, but I’ll give it a try.
You can participate, but you can also let the cats do it to each-other 🤓
