I’m looking to buy a laptop, and found some deals, among which the most I liked is this Dell G15 at. ~1200$.

Is this a good deal? I like how it looks, and the reviews say only battery is bad. But I hear Dell is not good unless it’s XPS. Should I buy it?

Check for the reviews of the nearest repair center. Make your decision based on that. From my own bias, after owning mostly Intel and a few low-powered AMD devices, I’d personally go team Red. All the three devices are almost similar, with some minor improvements, and since you want the “Indian” way of buying a gaming rig (Amazon link ends with .in, so I’m assuming that you’re from India?), I’d suggest that you prioritize this factor the most.
I see that you’re not buying a MSI laptop, and that is probably for the best that you avoid them. Their after-sales support is really bad.
I don’t have a gaming device, but a decently-sized notebook - the Lenovo S540 (2018 model). I live near to Mysuru, and the service center for Lenovo is just absolutely horrible. They ruined my speakers, a few screws are missing, the lower part of the bottom panel has a lot of dents and scratches, and my touch-pad has a bunch of issues. However, I’ve owned a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 (2016 model). But between Dell and Lenovo, I’d go for Lenovo.
I mean… if they’re asking for advice about a gaming rig, the gaming community seems like a pretty relevant place to ask.
Not sure what’s with the barrage of downvotes, but my comment wasn’t unthoughtful. OP is from India (see the Amazon link they’re sharing), and so I am. The general consensus in r/IndianGaming or r/developersindia where I used to frequent previously will readily agree with me, but since this is probably not an India-oriented community, they seem to misunderstand my comment. In a place where shoddy repair technicians exist, the first priority is to look for a good repair shop for the brand you’ve chosen above. In a place like India, gaming specs can be compromised for a good future-proof experience and nice after-sales service.

The three laptops are almost the same, with minor performance improvements in each areas. Since OP did not provide their city, hence the comment “go for a brand with good, brand-specific repair center near you”. With that being said, I’ve shared about my device, a four-year old Lenovo S540 with i5-8265U and MX250, which despite not being a gaming device, has gone through some minor light-weight gaming, including old-school stuff like Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition, TESV, CSGO, Dark Souls and Minecraft. Also, since I happen to live near to Mysuru, which also happens to be very close to Bengaluru, one of the many parts-rich area in India apart from Hyderabad, Mumbai or Delhi, I’m sharing my story of how Lenovo service centers suck in my area because:

lack of parts (yeah, my laptop still has a blown speaker)

horrible repair job - it has lost a few screws, the touchpad is flaky and the bottom is all full of dents and scratches, meaning zero regards for the customer.
Now, it isn’t necessarily going to be bad in places near to the other tier-1 and tier-2 cities. Service centers in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai are pretty good, because I’ve lived there before. Had a Dell Inspiron 15 5000, but the laptop was pretty bad build-quality wise, so I don’t recommend Dell.
The down votes are because you suggested that Gaming is not the correct community to ask about Gaming hardware, and it’s hardly a barrage. There’s nothing wrong with the advice you’re giving, especially since you seem to have regionally appropriate knowledge that many others don’t have. This is still the appropriate place to ask their question. Likely it’s because, whether you intended for it to be so or not, your opening statement comes across… abrasive.

Yes, what I meant was that r/IndianGaming would have been the right place to ask. However, since most of the Lemmy users would refuse to go back, I had to inform the unfortunate news that the Lemmy-equivalent !indiagaming@lemmy.ml is an inactive community, and perhaps it would have been for the better, had there been more folks with region-specific answer. Perhaps, I should have not added them to begin with, in the first place, as it has caused some sort of miscommunication.

We have shoddy repair places here in the US too, but that’s no reason to make people to hunt for some region-specific community for their hardware questions.
