Cool KDE Plasma Tip: Quickly access task manager apps with [Meta] + [number]
@kde@floss.social’s task manager usually lives in the panel located by default at the bottom of your desktop (see attached image).
Quickly open or display apps shown in the task manager by holding down the [Meta] (aka “Windows”) key and hitting one of the number keys at the top of your keyboard.
Reach the first app on the left with [Meta] + [1], the second from the left with [Meta] + [2], etc.

how can you make the numbers like in gnome, so that you don’t have to count them manually? the whole feature loses its meaning.
I can’t see an option to do this, but it sounds like a good feature to have. Would you like to add it to the wishlist for the Task Manager widget at

Minimized apps are restored to their prior size and position. Apps behind other windows, are brought to the front

Open Plasma’s System Settings app and go to
Workspace > Shortcuts
And look for the “Plasma” entry in the list.
Check the
“Active Task Manager Enty ‘n’”
entries are assigned correctly to their corresponding keyboard combos.

Right… Amarok has been kinda semi-abandoned for some time. Obviously these two, Task Manager and Amarok, had overlapping shortcuts and nobody realised.

Elisa is currently the most popular music player from KDE:
Apart from both being music players, Amarok and Elisa are not very similar. Elisa (supposedly) works on mobile too (but it is not all there yet), and is much simpler than Amarok.
The nearest thing to Amarok may be Strawberry…

@Bro666 @rriemann @kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social I tried Elisa, but I couldn’t get on with it. Amarok as been ported to KDE 5 and it is fairly stable, so that’s what I use.

There are Clementine and Strawberry that are forks of the old Amarok, but not from KDE. The current music player from KDE is Elisa.
@Bro666 @kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social tbh this is one of the first keybinds I overwrite with something else. I use meta+number to switch between workspaces to switch between sets of windows instead of just separate windows. I kinda wish window groups would be a thing instead of having to emulate it with virtual desktops

And thank you for doing so. I’ve been intermittently using Meta+number on Windows 10 for ages, but somehow never thought to try it on Plasma.
Maybe cause I only use it intermittently on Windows. Or maybe cause Plasma virtual Desktop are so good I rarely have many windows in each desktop
Note: you might encounter a bug where in different activities or active window, these shortcuts are calling the apps from the default activity, instead of currently active one. Not sure if this has been reported yet.
