  • first I’ve heard of this show, so forgive me if you’ve heard this before. But. Aren’t all LOTR stories generic, because “generic fantasy” (as we know it today) was defined by LOTR in the first place?

At least, any LOTR story that would blend with the original texts/movie. Peter Jackson’s even on the poster, though IDK what his relationship with this work will be. I’m sure you could make an out-there story set in middle-earth, but I’m skeptical that it would be recognizably LOTR.

Depends on if you want it to be recognizably LOTR ofc

  • The problem with boob plate is how it deflects attacks. There are plenty of places on that armor where a spear jab would deflect upwards toward the neck area.

Flat isn’t really what you want either for these. When the weapon deflects and slides off to a side, that steals a lot of the energy from the impact. If the weapon strikes a flat armor, it would be much more likely to damage the armor. That might mean caving in the plate, or fully piercing it. Neither is great. (And even if the armor withstands the hit, it might knock you on your ass, which could very well be a death sentence)

There’s usually some room in these sorts of armors. unless you’re tiddy is comically big, I’m skeptical that you’d need a great deal of accommodation. But even if you do, the armor shouldn’t look like booba from the outside.

Something like this should presumably work, but I’ll admit I’ve never had boobs inside of a suit of armor.

Reminder that the 30% steam tax is absolutely greed. Gabe is a libertarian and charges it because he can get away with it. It makes games worse by affecting the equation measuring what is profitable to make. Gabe doesn’t care about that, and that should be taken into account when considering if you actually trust him.

the internet is just… Such a shitty venue for these conversations. I have friends in the real world who disagree with me. If someone is being nasty online I feel no compunction to spend the brainpower on them. Especially as I continue to struggle with the deluge of bad news and it’s affect on my mental health.

Block away, for your own health and well-being.

  • Typically you pay for a battle pass with some sort of currency that costs real money to acquire. The battle pass isn’t anything on its own, but if you play the game you’ll then unlock experience or whatever with the battle pass, thus unlocking whatever it contains. Often that’s cosmetics for the game, sometimes useable items, and sometimes it’s more of that currency that costs real money.

IMO they suck. Usually they expire at the end of the month, so if something comes up (family emergency, computer died, whatever) you wasted it and paid for nothing. It’s a cheap trick to devalue a player’s purchase, and to try and boost player count in lieu of good gameplay.

But apparently if you completed the battle pass, it would give you enough premium currency to buy the one they out next month. So theoretically you might only have to buy it once if you were diligent in finish the pass before it went away. Now they’ve taken that away because they wanted more money.

  • I would question the efficiency claim. Uber and the like claimed incredible market dominance, driving local food delivery and taxi services out of business. They’re only now really being forced to find profitability.

I wonder if AI is going to be similar. The powerful models right now, as I understand it, have ludicrous power requirements. I don’t know their balance sheets, but in the current race to market share, I’m skeptical that most of these services are in the green.

What that ultimately says about the future I don’t really know. Like it could be we reach some point where the models get better, or more specialized, or something and profit arrive. Or maybe theres a point of diminishing returns where the profit just can’t be made, and once the hype falls off (and investors stop clamoring for AI) these companies will ask what they’re getting for the money spent.

(And of course I could just be straight up wrong about profits today not being there.)

  • Look if someone’s having a bad time, it don’t cost much to throw em a bone. Like sure, that last attack killed them a round early because everyone has had a moment to feel proud today but you. Or like the spellcaster who is feeling a bit shitty because every monster has saved against their spells by some fluke today.

Like if they aren’t having fun, what am I doing here?

Video games do this shit all the time. Famously the first GoW gave new players a small boost in multiplayer. It led to a community and better engagement in the long run because people had more fun. BG3 has that goofy ‘karmic dice’ system, which is on by default. Fire emblem lies. etc etc
