The Conqueror from a Dying Kingdom: Volume 6 - This is a very difficult review for me. I did not like 95% of it but after I read the last chapter I understood why the volume had to be this way in order for it to work. It’s like the setup of a joke. Without the setup, the punchline won’t hit. The problem is that when you don’t enjoy the setup in a joke you’re bored for a minute. But if you don’t enjoy the setup in this volume you’re bored for a couple hours. On the other hand, the “punchline” here was stunning and I am left wondering if it made it all worth it in the end? The notes I took during the main part of the book were scalding: “angsty teenagers in heat”, “20yo girl starts to date a 105yo guy”, and “disappointing after the great last two volumes”. But thanks to the last chapter I still can’t wait for the next volume. So, since I can’t quantify the volume as a whole, I give the “setup” a 3/10 and the “punchline” a 10/10. How would you rate such a book?
That was the only book I’ve read last week, but I’ve finished FFvii Rebirth so this week I should be able to squeeze more reading time in. But then again, Dragons Dogma 2 comes out so soon so there is that.
edit: Just finished the last bosnus chapters of Wild Game so I’ll put it into this week’s thread as well:
Cooking with Wild Game: Volume 23 - For a moment there I thought my ship would enter rough waters and the storm was getting worse, but they passed it soon enough. Still comfy, everything is good 9/10.
