I consider myself fairly terminally-online but now and then I see a post like this that may as well be a foreign language, and I go to the comments for clues and they’re all just random words strung together and it makes even less sense. What a time to be alive!

This is from Hypnospace Outlaw, a game about a fictional version of the late 90’s Internet that people could use in their dreams. You play as a content moderator and the game involves a lot of browsing funny content and unraveling a sort of story told through all the various web pages and the fictional people who created them.

Beef brain is one of the dangers of using Hypnospace so Beef Brain Shield Pro is a product sold to protect against it so people would add this badge to their Hypnospace pages, kind of like adding a ‘Protected by McAffee’ badge to a Geocities website.

Also don’t forget to warn your kids about the dangers of shonking!

Cannot recommend this game enough! If you were around for the 90’s internet and enjoyed scrolling through random webpages, or like the idea of experiencing a satirized version of it, this game is for you. Theres dozens of hours worth of content here if you’re willing to really explore each page and link, which the game encourages/necessitates you do to fulfill your duties as a content moderator.

You could probably complete the game in a few hours if you’re REALLY intuitive or just know where to look, but the real joy comes in exploration and experiencing the deep world building and incredible attention to detail
