Malta punches so far above its weight. Visited and had a blast. Food was phenomenal, people were great, public transit worked really well, and several phenomenal ruins. It wasn’t remotely on my “want to visit” list before I went, but I’d definitely return.
OP: can you share why the second story bay windows are everywhere? It’s a neat piece of architecture but never asked why they did it.
Thanks! I was there twice when I was in the Navy, it’s the first stop when entering the Mediterranean. I adored the historical architecture with this yellow sandstone and the tight streets. Those balconies, hmm, not sure. My guess would be that they used to be open balconies but as people needed more space, they closed them and got a little more room? Edit: Ah, found it Wikipedia-Gallarija
Ah! Neat, thanks for finding that. And of course, reading the article my first thought was “yes, we have these fancy balconies, and it’s a new concept- but still older than your country”. LOL.
