Who else is hyped for the event, and what runs are you looking forward to?
For those unfamiliar - Awesome Games Done Quick is a charity speedrunning event benefitting the Prevent Cancer Foundation which runs from today through Saturday. Any donations made to PCF will also potentially enter you into raffles for some really cool prizes. Any subs or bits cheered will also go towards PCF.
I’m not affiliated with GDQ except as a prize donor, and being excited for their events
[Update] LETS GOOOOO
A pair of friends of mine’s game is being featured, and I’m pretty stoked about their game getting the exposure. Cassette Beasts, Monday at 13:18 UTC.
That’s awesome! I’ll have to check it out for sure
That. Was. Adorable. What a cute game!
Tell your friends I fucking loved their game and can never go back to Pokémon again because they’ve absolutely spoiled me.
Also, tell them 70% of my time ended up with me playing as Khufo and using Wonderful 7 far, far too much. Love that design (I didn’t even realise it wasn’t the default Allseer transformation until I looked online later).
Honestly I might check it out but they rarely seem to play games I’m interested in (first person shooters) and their management style gives me the ick. Very very puritanical over the most minor things.
That’s fair, I went and stacked the firewood I split during the monkeyball run cuz they’re not really my jam.
I’ll admit I’m unsure what you’re referring to with the management style but I’m sad they give you the ick, and I hope you don’t feel pressed to expand if you don’t feel like it
This is a good video on the topic While I personally can very much see why they’ve banned some runners, I just can’t see why for others. I don’t agree with everything the youtuber says but it’s very compelling.
In short, the organization just seems very quick to blow minor mishaps way out of the water. They seem to enjoy treating their customers and their fanbase as children, and instead of letting people work out their own differences as the adults they are, they like to step in and handle it themselves. Sometimes this goes well, but most of the time it doesn’t.
Basically, the way they run the event just tends to cause drama and it doesn’t look like they’ll be changing anytime soon. I enjoy the runners and the runs, but the event organizers clearly have a lot of issues going on. There’s a reason you just don’t see this kind of drama with ESA.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond and giving me an avenue to educate myself about some of the behind the scenes goings on - thank you.
(I had to go chop wood for an extra cozy watch)
TUNIC is up around the top of my list, but I’m also looking forward to the Mario showcases and the MegaMan 8 run. Fingers crossed for marathon luck during the pokemon crystal rando run, and for Shenanigans to pick another fight with chat.
(I’m loving watching the dev’s face during TUNIC)
Okay tunic was better than I expected. The beta area and Dev commentary is so cool. What a wild game with so much speed running inclusion
I’m so stoked that TUNIC is starting it off
YES!
I’m excited for the Mario maker glitch showcase!
Those are always so much fun, and I always end up trying to replicate the more approachable ones so I can be the “cool” uncle
looking forward to A Bug’s Life
