Why? It’s useful for people who struggle to read the tone of replies, and let’s be honest, that’s happened all of us at some point.

What I want to see die is the ridiculous swapping of letters for symbols in words like r@pe or su!cide. This is not TikTok or Instagram, your Reddit/lemmy posts are not monetised. You do not need to censor trigger or swear words.

It’s messy and dumb. People should be able to figure it out through context. Even if they can’t… who cares. Makes zero difference if people don’t get it. This isn’t reddit. You’re not collecting karma. It’s irrelevant if you get down voted.

If you have to explain that something is sarcasm then it’s not sarcasm.

At that point you might as well just say what you want to say without encoding it in an additional tone or layer which requires extra thought on the part of the reader.

Are you in the UK? It’s 13C where I am at the moment but my partner and I went to watch the tennis last week and even with factor 50 on he suffered the worse sunburn I’ve ever seen irl. The extreme highs we’ve been experiencing over the last 5-10 years have made it difficult to remember that the average night time temperature in July in the UK is 11C. In June it’s 9C. It is much hotter than it should be.
