anyone had any luck with sourcing replacement earbuds? seems kinda wasteful to junk the whole thing because one earbud is gone.

More like it was wasteful to make. It probably sounds meh because of the form factor and is easy to lose.
Just buy an actual good IEM from aliexpress and pair it up with a trn bt20xs.
