There’s no point in debating anyways. What has Trump done in all of the debates he’s ever partaken in since 2016? It’s nothing but loud mouth, underhanded and stepping over boundaries kind of tactics. That’s all he’s got, it’s all he’s had and it’s all he’s ever going to have. There is no point in debating about serious issues with a diaper-shitting loudmouth who’s going to just rabble at you. It’d be like talking to a dumb Reddit troll who’s an armchair know-it-all.

there’s no point debating at all because it doesn’t change anyone’s minds, it’s just who can score the more points. trump knows how to score points: be funny and roast the competition rather than droning on about politic minutae that no one watching truly cares about or remembers

and if the issues are so serious, why would you not interrupt the opposition and be underhanded rather than letting him carry on to be polite? pandora’s box has been opened, debates are effectively entertainment and people want their guy to be entertaining. i wish someone on the left would adopt the trump style bombast and use it benevolently

I don’t know. I agree with you, but part of me thinks we shouldn’t stop trying to win Republicans over to the moderate center (notice I didn’t say “left”). Because, if not, then what’s the point of politics, exactly?

I think it could strengthen Biden’s chances. There’s nothing for Trump to really hit Biden with. All of Biden’s major fuck ups or unpopular stances are exacerbated under Trump.

Biden tried for a bipartisan immigration bill that Trump wouldn’t support. So nothing on immigration.

Biden is still funding Israel which Trump is all in on. So only vector there is that Biden doesn’t want obvious genocide, not a strong point.

Interest rates trending downward, so “economy” is toothless.

It would actually be good if Trump tried to attack him on anything like that.

I forgot how Trump and friends seemed to try to intentionally give Biden Covid last time.

Anyway, I think it’s unlikely Trump will debate him. If they do, the moderators should definitely enforce turning off the mic when it’s not someone’s turn to talk and not allow Trump to creepily wander around the stage and stand behind Biden like he did to Clinton.

      Nor for the country.

I disagree. As fucked as this particular situation is, the people should be able to watch the candidates answer hard questions. That’s what happens normally and I don’t see why that should change just because the diaper shitting orange narcissist is involved.

It’s not pointless. One thing narcissists and wannabe strongmen do is act like they are above the rules that the rest of us have to abide by. Norms and conventions are for the little people. A good way to push back is to hold them to the same standards as anybody else. It sends the message that they aren’t special, and if Trump doesn’t like that, well tough shit. Let Biden have the allotted time all to himself in that case.

The only way to get through to Trump is to imprison him (actually, I doubt he could own up to his actions, even then). I’d be fine with Biden listing out policy positions and answering questions for an hour.

That’s one way, not the only way. One thing narcissists cannot abide is ridicule but I don’t know if Biden is the guy to do that. If he could provoke Trump into a meltdown on live TV that could be enough to seal a second term. It’s a shame it’s not Newsom though, I’m not a huge fan of his but he would straight up roast Trump for 90 minutes.

We have yet to see a lawyer, judge, politician, or rational human being be able to successfully moderate Donald Trump, that’s what the other person is saying. He’s a toddler, he’s either babbling nonsense or he’s having a temper tantrum. There’s no point in a debate if the person you’re debating just wants to whine and lie.

But, I suppose if you want to watch 2 geriatrics losing touch with reality in different ways, at different stages, you could always volunteer at a nursing home.

    Biden doesn’t want a debate.

    And trump doesn’t either.

So they’re both going to say they’re willing but can’t because of ______.

Last election I’m pretty sure was the first in modern history we didn’t get the standard 3, I’ll be surprised if we get 1 this time.

I’m pretty sure Biden does want a debate. He’s been intentionally pushing Trump’s buttons for a minute now.

He would be ecstatic if he could get Trump to sundown during a debate, which is likely why Trump’s handlers won’t let him do it.

          Dementia symptoms becoming visible.

          What is sundowning?

Sometimes you might see changes in the person’s behaviour in the later afternoon or towards the end of the day. During this time the person may become intensely distressed, agitated and have hallucinations or delusions. This may continue into the night, making it hard for them to get enough sleep.

This is sometimes known as ‘sundowning’ but is not necessarily linked to the sun setting or limited to the end of the day. Sundowning can happen at any stage of dementia but is more common during the middle stage and later stages.

People with Alzheimer’s tend to be in better spirits with more manageable symptoms during the day and the difference can be striking. Because it’s frequently tied to the daylight, to “sundown” is to experience more severe Alzheimer’s symptoms. Basically, if Biden can get trump to have a brain fart and show mental incompetence.

Sidenote: I’m pretty sure I write like chatgpt, which is a fucking problem for the thesis I’m working on.

This is exactly how I speak to my dad when he wants to play a game of pool. I tell him that I’ll play only if he doesn’t throw temper tantrums, he tells me that he’ll do his best and I always regret my decision. I haven’t played pool with him in years. The only way to win is to not play.

On the one hand, candidates should not, under any circumstances, have a choice. Eligibility for office should be predicated on participation in public debates, structured and moderated under direct democratic control. On the other hand, stopping Trump is essential, and in the system we have, not the system I wish we had, this is a good strategy. Biden is assuming the role of adult in the room, and making Trump come to him, setting vague terms he never actually has to deliver on. He’s setting up the conclusion that if there isn’t a debate, it’s because Trump was an ill-behaved child, but if there is, it will be on Biden’s terms. Very well played.

Bill Clinton? If so… For one, if you are referring to Monica Lewinsky, that was a mutual act.

Trump, on the other hand, raped a person (this was proved in court), and probably others (speculation, but public perception would indicate it is true).

I’m sorry, but there is a difference here.
