My first car was a stick shift with absolutely no electronics to prevent be from being a badass, or to save me from myself, or to save itself from me. I sacrificed the clutch teaching myself how to launch. I sacrificed 1st teaching myself how to double clutch. I sacrificed 2nd and 3rd’s shift collars, respectively, teaching myself how to downshift without using the clutch while left foot braking, by first taking my foot off the gas and granny shifting it into neutral, and then briefly floorboarding it while it’s in neutral, and then letting the revs fall until it matches the gear I want, and then granny shifting it again. Everyone should have something like that as their first car, drive it to the middle of nowhere where there’s no one and nothing to hit, and destroy it for the sake of becoming the best possible driver. It’s a travesty that they don’t make cars like that anymore, truly.
