Okay, another simple one this week. Who is your favorite character?

For me, it’s Myne/Rosemyne from Ascendance of a Bookworm. I know, I know, it’s shocking, but hear me out: not only is she the complete opposite of the typical overpowered isekai character by being completely powerless (she is bedridden and nearly dying from climbing a flight of stairs), but she also gets everything she achieves by hard work and perseverance. Nothing is presented to her on a silver platter. No big-breasted goddess gifting her a cheat skill that let her cruise through life on easy mode. I’ve seen the argument that she’s an OP character because she got a lot of mana, but that argument doesn’t stand because she only got that much mana because she had to fight for her life constantly against her own body that was trying to kill her (and in fact killed the go Myne).

Reading about her story, character growth, and path is as captivating, motivational, and uplifting as it gets.

So that’s my favorite. Who is yours? And please don’t just throw out a name and leave me hanging wondering about the reasons.

If we are excluding Myne - Miles (Didn’t I say to make my abilities average)

She is just trying to be normal and live a normal life but keeps messing it up and doing the complete opposite of fitting in. All of the obscure references she makes which just makes her stand out even more. The loyalty she shows to her friends, how she is willing to protect them no matter what. But she will also help others and do what she can for people.

I am not sure how others view her but I see her as a more energetic less book obsessed Myne.

Oh yes, I should have included it. You’re more than welcome to include a character mentioned by someone else. You just have to add new reasons. Thems them rulez.

But Mile is great as well. I always liked FUNA’s characters and Mile is probably the best of his. The plot of Average Abilities got a bit too strange and and unfocused for me but the character was always great and carried the series way longer than I would normally read it.
