We both setup servers at about the same time a few years ago and shared with each other. I’m sure once the dust settles someone will pull the he plug on his server and it’ll be offline for good.
Watching School Of Rock on his server one more time while I can.
Edit: his server is officially offline now. Rest in peace.
I’ve always thought about writing a script that wipes the drives on my server if I don’t check in once a month, but I’d inevitably forget to check in one month and be screwed.

Instead of wiping, just encrypt and write a script to shut down if you don’t sign in within x amount of time. That way you won’t lose your data if you’re not able to sign in for some reason other than death.

This is what encryption is for without much risk of loss.
There used to be email lists where if you didn’t respond every few weeks or so it would send out to people.
I bet that led to some rough days.
I was just talking about kill switching some of my servers with someone the other day
Just encrypt your drives and don’t tell anyone the password.
