I’m 44, guess I can’t eat there
The headline of the article is bad
How is it bad? It’s in the article.
Women must be at least 30 to enter, and men must be at least 35.
I guess because they are 44, they cannot eat there.
Because it doesn’t say 35+ or 30+, it’s just a hard cut off. It’s arguing semantics, essentially.
Do people not know what “at least” means?
It’s not in the title of this post so that’s pretty irrelevant.
Restaurant says men must be 35, women must be 30 to enter: ‘We’re sticking to our code’
Do you not know what must be means?
Just serve bland food and you won’t need the rule.
I don’t see the age restriction as too far different from senior clubs (minus the gender split; do nonbinary folks get in at 30 or 35?) so that doesn’t bother me. IDs being verified by a St Louis County officer instead of an employee of the restaurant does. Why are taxpayers of all ages footing the bill for a private business?
The cop isn’t likely officially on duty, it’s likely a detail shift that’s little more than bonus income for cops. Many police forces require private business that may be dangerous to hire off duty police.
“a hostess”… or a cop.
I’m curious about this.
The owner, 36, openly he was too shitty to est at a restaurant 24 months ago
what difference do those 5 years make in terms of gender?
I think they’re trying to say that men take longer to mature than women.
Their marketing scam wasn’t edgy enough without it.
This whole thing is designed to generate a lot of buzz about the restaurant. Once the buzz dies down, they’ll either quietly drop the restrictions. Or declare bankruptcy and find a new angle.
Kinda sounds like illegal discrimination given two protected classes.
Like a 55+ community?
Age isn’t a protected class unless you’re above 40
40? What is protected for 40?
Its the arbitrary number set by Congress. Its illegal in a lot of cases to discriminate against someone for being over 40 (but not under or any number under)
Hmmm. I did not know that.
Its very stupid.
It’s* very stupid.
- It’s* the arbitrary number
- It’s* illegal in
Sorry I think I was stoned
Except also different standards for gender.
I do think it’s silly that it’s not just 35+ for both genders.
The purpose is to generate buzz, so it’s working as intended.
Sure. Doesn’t it make you want to go there and act like a child? ;)
No kids zones are popular in South Korea and it doesn’t sound horrible honestly. https://creatrip.com/en/blog/10889
I’m all for it. I loathe that high pitched shriek kids make when upset or the other one they make while playing. Nails on a chalkboard.
There’s a difference here.
A 25 yo isn’t a kid.
Ehhhhh…
I’d rather have a restaurant that catered to a certain decade of births. Perhaps a restaurant called, “80’s babies”, and then decorate it in pop culture pieces from the 90’s and 2000’s. Decorate it with pieces from movies that were released in the 90’s and 2000’s. Place memorabilia from bands and musicians that played during those years. Put up posters from popular TV shows. I would have areas of the restaurant dedicated to certain trends and styles. For example, one area could be for the pop fans of the late 90’s, another could be for the rock scene fans of the early 2000’s, …etc. Another area could be a bar that has the most memorable baseball, football, soccer, or other games from those years, being replayed on a big screen. Another area could be an eating area where guests can watch famous news and political clips from those years. Something similar to Reeling in the Years could be playing on screens near their booths.
The whole place could be like a time capsule from the late 80’s to about 2010. If you want a certain age group to patronize a place, make it appeal to them specifically. That’s just my opinion. It will probably be downvoted.
This is a great idea.
I’ve seen plenty of places that try this concept. In the end the walls look like decade vomit, the songs are the same one-hit wonders, and the wait staff are not enjoying it one bit. If done wrong, this is less Jack Rabbit Slims and more Hard Rock.
I’d like to see this executed tastefully somehow. That said, I am no means a designer so I hope someone more talented than me could flesh this idea.
maybe just have era-appropriate decor and vibes so we are 70% there
I feel the same way! I hope someone can really do it justice, too.
- '80s* babies
- the '90s* and 2000s*
- the late '90s*
- the early 2000s*
- the late '80s*
Don’t know about where this restaurant is, but in my corner of the world, restaurants are hurting. They’re happy to get any paying customers they can. Write back in 2 years and see if this place is still open and still uses this Facebook-headline marketing strategy.
Sounds like a great marketing gimmick. Look at how many people are talking about it.
Marvin Pate, 36, and his wife opened Bliss just two weeks ago.
Yep
What about the staff?
A 30 or 35 year old line cook is fucking ancient and 30 and 35 for wait staff is definitely almost ready for the diner gig.
And he’s 36… lol. Someone just had their first kid and had their accompanying testostorone dip. Now all younger men are bad!
What do uou wanna bet the wife is 30-35?
Dumb.

You just made a sexist claim to explain why that company shouldn’t be sexist.

Woman are the one that make annoying tiktoks and take 20k pictures of food.
Yes, that is sexist and idiotic

I mean if we’re just slinging stereotypes I guess all dudes are cavemen who have no table manners and get drunk and pick fights all the time. It’s the truth! Better raise that age limit to 40

Same with mine, dudes are just giant aggressive apes until they’re older literally cant put two or more of em in a room without one of em getting pissy and yelling, it’s better if they don’t eat there until they chill out, either that or they’re bitter incels
As is 50+% of the poulation

Depends who you ask. To lots of people, yes.
