“Immensely disappointing”: Nike killing app for $350 self-tying sneakers
It is hard to imagine that there was not someone inside of Nike that lost their faith in humanity when the pitch for these things was originally taking off.
feel free to file this comment under the heading “old man yells at clouds” , but it is just kind of comically dystopian to talk about concepts like “losing shoe functionality” or having features of your shoes bricked. it makes me laugh in an “otherwise i’d be crying” kind of way
isn’t that what /internetofshit is all about?
The future is here and it sucks.
We should stop seeing it as an “old people thing” to be critical of a specific technology or innovation. After all, nowadays it’s often the boomers who are the least aware of the negative aspects of things like social media or “the cloud”, simply because they don’t understand it, and just assume it’s how the world works nowadays.
I really don’t get mad about things like this. I mean, who really expected a light up shoe connected to your phone to be a purely functional thing? It’s obviously a novelty people wasted money on. I’ll never buy a shoe that has any electronics so I don’t really care what happens to that section of the market.
The good news is that you can still tie them with an on-shoe button. But, you cant change the colors of the lights anymore. So basically garbage at this point.
Into the landfill with the rest of it

Proprietary garbage did what they always do? Blasphemy! I am shocked!
Surely someone will be able to reverse engineer the apk…
I’ll just leave this here: Kickstarter auto-lacing shoe
