Remember, SPF isn’t how strong it is, it’s how long it lasts. SPF 100 isn’t any better than SPF 45 if you are out in the sun for 2 hours.

Well, fuck me, my High School Chemistry teacher was wrong. That’s on me for not fact checking my rural education. Listen to @SpikesOtherDog@ani.social I appreciate the correction.

      This is incorrect.

SPF directly relates to the percentage of sun blocked.

There is some very bad information out there. Brittanica says that a person who burns within 30 minutes can go 7.5 hours of application with SPF 30:

      https://www.britannica.com/story/what-does-spf-mean

I personally take hours to burn, but I will still reapply every 90 minutes, especially when swimming.

My child burns within 15 minutes and requires 50 every 90 minutes to keep from being deep fried (air fried?)

Keep in mind that you aren’t only protecting yourself from burns, but also skin cancer. If you can get by with lower value and longer exposure, that’s great. If you tan in a London fog, think higher values.

Also, I wouldn’t trust a generic ask day at the beach unless you have tried it before. We have been burned, literally, by buying something cheap in a moment that didn’t work out.
