The other 5 are required to adopt it in a delayed schedule when they pass certain membership criteria. https://european-union.europa.eu/institutions-law-budget/euro/countries-using-euro_en It’s extremely unlikely the UK would be allowed to keep the pound if they rejoined as they already meet those criteria.
