While I agree with your first sentiment, the second seems to not work for me. I can’t blame people for having been ignorant (aka they were lied too). If they were aware it was a lie, then shame on them. But my parents who I no longer talk to for other reasons, always went by that numerical system they were told to follow normally found on the bottom of the container, and put them in different bins. That was ignorance, so I see no reason to blame them for it.
It’s like blaming a kid for thinking a strawberry is a berry. Someone taught them so, and didn’t know otherwise
