Still gonna keep this goings; people from before will be pinged.
Discussion questions:
What video games have you played recently?
What are your favorite video game genres?
Question of the week:
What did you like most from the recent TGA 2024, assuming you watched it or know of the announcements?
and
What did you enjoy most from the year 2024 in terms of gaming?
Well, a lot of bad news has happened politically IRL, but let’s make this thread a good one, and enjoy ourselves here!
Been playing a lot of GTA V and grinding online, I still have to grind on lobbies with nobody else in there tho bc most players are assholes that ruin your missions
I am playing enlisted (ww2 multi-player first person shooter) and WOWS (naval warfare simulator) as a way to disconnect my brain.
Also emush from eternal twin group project which is a recreation of a real time (multiple days) cooperative game kind of merging alien and the thing movies. The game predates among us but is kinda similar.
Quite fun due to the mistery and cooperation element, not gonna lie, but on long runs you are just fighting the environment by repairing the ship which is breaking down basically every other cycle (3h per cycle, on cycle changes stuff happens)
oh nice
I mean, WOWS is my true “disconnect brain return to monkee”, point and click adventure.
Enlisted does require some thinking on where to attack from and trying to predict where enemies and their defenses will be, but the actual combat engagements is all muscle memory by now becaude I have played that shooter very often.
Haven’t been able to play much this past month due to some personal issues, but I started up NGU Idle and It’s been a blast.
Favorite genres have to be city-builders/sims, and strategic or turn-based combat games.
Didn’t watch TGA since it’s super bloated, but I did see and enjoy the BG3 director’s comments about the industry.
The thing I enjoyed most this year is personal, but I started playing a lot more of the silly co-op games with friends and it’s a great way to spend time with them when they don’t live close.
I like idle games. might try this one
caves of qud 1.0 out now babeyy!!! also been playing gyruss for the arcade and panel de pon/puzzle league/tetris attack.
fav video genres are roguelikes, puzzle games, and arcade games like shmups.
there was a game awards…?
ring racers is THE game of 2024 in my heart and soul and spirit and its factual go play ring racers
fuck yes, ring racers
Caves of Qud is finally out! WOW!
I just finished my first (and likely only) playthrough of Horizon Forbidden West+DLC Burning Shores (I loved the previous game Horizon Zero Dawn).
I wasn’t prepared to get slapped in the face with sinophobia (the writing re: the Quen) but yeah it really soured my experience. I know it’s not like super overt but I understood the angle where it was coming from and what the writing was trying to communicate to its audience. Maybe I’ll find it funny in a few weeks (as many sinophobic tropes/accusations are more reflective of the west than they are of china;; “moral lessons” about finding the truth for yourself is much more applicable to westerners “forced” to reiterate antichina-isms than it is applicable to whatever the average westerner thinks about censorship and free speech in china) but right now I’m just unhappy.
At least I didn’t spend money on it this time around🏴☠️
Yeah, absolutely.
Honestly, that’s disappointing.
I’m still playing Resident Evil 2. Now I’m doing the Claire playthrough, I’m a Jill man myself but I’m beginning to see the appeal. Anyway, I’m nervous as hell because the game keeps giving me all this ammo and all these crazy weapons and that means they expect me to use it.
Yeah, it’s heart-pounding
Just played The Quarry, and it was a blast. Can highly recommend if you enjoy choices based story games. My favorite genres are story games, turn based tactical, and roguelikes. I find I don’t have a huge amount of time to play, so I like games that aren’t too complex and that you can pick up and play without having to remember how the game works.
Didn’t follow TGAs this year. For 2024 games, I really enjoyed Selaco, Spiritfall, Portal Revolution, and Arco.
sounds gud
Got back into playing pokken (am getting consistent wins against hard AI now yay)
Pokken? What’s that?
it’s a pokemon fighting game for the switch (and the wii u i guess)
Oh, Pokken Tournament!
I only played around 5 minutes of the My Sims Kingdom that came out on the Switch. I am in my finals week so I haven’t been able to play anything, but after the 19th I’m free (until January)! My favourite genre seems to be cozy games, so that’s interesting, although I also like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Legend of Zelda, so I don’t know what to say about that.
I don’t pay attention to the game awards, I think CaseOh won something. I liked playing my switch games and some on steam this year, not much gaming from me unfortunately. I imagine next year will be even less games because it’s my final year of undergrad which means I have to lock in.
Never heard of CaseOh before the event
I’ve only ever seen clips of him on TikTok but he’s hilarious and hot, double whammy! An award well deserved
Oh damn, I could use some comedy. Guess I’ll check them out.
Replayed two flash games from my childhood that held up incredibly well. First was Battle of Britain 303 Squadron, and the second 1066. Would recommend if you have 15 minutes to spare!
Damn, flash games. They still around? What about Tetris on the Internet or as a flash game?
I was watching a video saying that they were held in “flash base,” as an archive.
I’ve been playing some Pokémon. I’m mostly finished w/ Fire Red, just need to rematch the Elite 4, and I’m mostly done with Let’s Go Pikachu too, which I started playing because a friend is also playing right now. And although it is extremely easy difficulty wise, I’m doing a living dex since catching Pokémon in this game is, at least, fun.
I’m getting the urge to go back to Baldur’s Gate 3, Breath of the Wild and Disco Elysium, all which I haven’t finished yet, unfortunately.
About TGA, I wasn’t expecting another FromSoftware game, and it being an Elden Ring alternate reality 3-player roguelike? SIGN ME IN, the trailer was cool, I want to see where this goes. Other than that, the only other games that caught my attention where the football game which looked so fucking cool, and this comes from someone that absolutely hate sports games, specially Fifa; The Long Dark looked super cool too and the new Ninja Gaiden looked amazing. I’m also interested in Onimusha after the trailer on TGA, so I’ll take a look into the games some time.
Ah, I can see that you have Kras Mazov as your username, but you haven’t finished Disco Elysium.
Shows the effect the game had on you just like it did to all of us…
Still on factorio. About 120 hours into the save. Pausing now to study programming a bit, but will play less hard, for the upcoming months, likely.
Damn, I need a game I can just grind.
This was probably the best TGA ever. Even the skits were funny. Definitely intrigued by the idea of an Elden Ring spin-off but the football game from the Sifu devs looked really cool too.
Yeah, definitely the best TGA ever. And I’m actually interested in the Elden Ring spin-off. I actually want it, warts and all. I know it’s a GaaS-type deal. But I don’t care, provided it’s done well for a good enough time, at least…
I was soooo excited for Veilguard. Guess which game I kinda hate? 😅
Damn.
I want to desperately enjoy The Veilguard and I still plan to buy it. I loved Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age Inquisition growing up.
Too bad only three decisions carry over from the third game…
I will never forget the intense and deep disappointment I felt after playing DA2. I hear Inquisition was better, but the entire series was dead to me from that point forward and I lost faith in direction of the series from that point.
I’m not the “stop having fun” type, but it’s a bummer to hear that they never managed to bring it back to the great to the same spot that made the first game so phenomenal.
I know what you mean. I really enjoyed Inquisition, I still play it today. It’s not perfect but it’s great. Veilguard just feels like a bad cartoon. Example: I’m playing as a Shadow Dragon and everyone keeps explaining to me what the Shadow Dragons do. Ok, yep, read the codex, read my own intro, I got it.
It was originally supposed to be a heavily monetized live service game and they had to pivot really late in development because of backlash during playtesting. A lot of the weirdness you see like that is because they were reworking what basically amounted to a bad mmo. I hear the last few hours of the story are pretty good though.

@Makan I’ve played a bit of Mirthwood an indie game that’s kind of a mashup between stardew valley and the sims
Then went to check out Path of Exiles 2 which I’m enjoying so far.
Oh, I’ve heard great things about Mirthwood, tbh
