If the jackpot isn’t claimed, the Mega Millions prize money will be returned to the states where the tickets were sold.

You have 180 days to claim it. Smart people will talk to a lawyer and get their ducks in order before claiming it. Typically, only people that would blow through it claim it in the first few days.
