General Motors hasn't kept its promise of offering the entry-level Chevy Equinox EV 1LT at around $30,000; the new price is $34,995, including destination.

I have a Bolt EUV currently and my only wants are faster charging, more range, and a little more space. AWD would be nice too. The Equinox fits the bill perfectly. That’s just a huge price increase to keep my supercruise, and other niceties, though.

    GM’s abandonment of CarPlay is a deal breaker for me. I wish GM was doing what Volvo-Polestar is doing. They also use Android Automotive, but they have CarPlay integration.

        I think it’s another case of legacy manufacturers taking the wrong lesson from Tesla. “Look, Tesla does it and are making huge profit, huge growth”.

        For me, it’s not a negative in Tesla doing this because they give so much software control to their customers for so many car functions, and they do it well enough. We’ve all seen the lack of software features in GM and how poorly they do entertainment/navigation.

      Yeah, I’m Android so it doesn’t bother me, but I agree, abandoning CarPlay is the wrong choice. We heading to a point, if we’re not already there, where it’s like gaming consoles and you have to buy a car based on the ecosystem you are already in.

      The article said it had Google built-in, but I don’t know if that means Android Auto or Android Automotive (terrible naming scheme, but that’s par for the course with Google).

              GM says the Blazer EV will come with “standard connectivity that allows customers to access Google Maps and Google Assistant, at no additional cost, for eight years beginning at time of vehicle purchase.”

              Oh great. That just means they are gonna convert to paying for access at some point. Yay, more subscriptions!

          Android Auto and Android Automotive are very very different products that were disastrously named by Google.

          Android Automotive is an entire head unit platform that runs on your car without a phone. It’s the OEM platform for the head unit.

          Android Auto is, like CarPlay, a way to project your phone onto a car’s head unit. GM is canning the projection systems, but is migrating to Android Automotive as the platform to power their head units.

        I would assume that this is going to be on the new Android Automotive platform. All the redesigned vehicles have been getting that.

        Edit: That said, even if this was on the old infotainment platform, I don’t have a lot of faith in GM’s direction and things don’t look great for iOS support. And iOS is literally half of the US phone market… which baffles me since GM’s biggest market is the US.
