This comic strip references Carl Sagan in the popular science documentary series Cosmos from 1980, which was about the astronomical history of the Universe, planet Earth itself, and Western civilization evolution’s of thought about it.

Carl Sagan had a distinctive way of saying the word “billions” which he said over and over again in the series.

The series is worth watching, if you haven’t seen it.

Maybe even better would be the 2014 updated version of Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey, and 2020’s Cosmos: Possible Worlds.

Both newer shows starred astronomer Neil deGrasse Tyson.
