The basic idea is that there is no free source of energy. Anyone who tries to sell you on the idea of free motion or work being done is trying to scam you.

Why don’t we just force runoff elections when things are off. It costs a few million, yes. But isn’t it better for people to decide instead of one judge?

I think the rationale goes like: Punish the good guys for being bad. They’ll lose, and then 4 years from now they’ll reform and treat you better. Essentially, give up on this next 4 years and hope that you’ll have an actual representative of your constituency after that.
