I think we need to separate giving a fuck from morally wrong. I know that even stealing from Walmart is morally wrong because two wrongs don’t make a right as the old saying goes, but more importantly, by living in this society and reaping its benefits, we agree to abide by its rules too. Justification is way too easy of an exercise to have any bearing on what’s acceptable.

That being said…I also don’t even give a fraction of a fuck about someone stealing from Walmart.

We can admit that something is wrong without caring if it’s enforced or not. Kind of like solo drivers being in the carpool lane. Wrong? Yes. Care? Not a chance. They’ve made their own risk/reward calculations in each case.

Armed forces guys in the US at least are kind of notorious for having abbreviations and pet names for things. For instance a “Huey” is a name for an Iriqouis helicopter. Actually, couldn’t think of better examples so I found a pretty solid article about it.

Incorrect. The argument makes perfect sense, you just gave a reason for why the example’s initial point seems obvious. Proofs don’t need to be fancy or make novel arguments to be effective. It’s math, where the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

We say Kleenex instead of facial tissue, Band-Aid instead of bandage, I say that Siri butchered my “ducking” text again when I know autocorrect is technically separate.

We also say, “hang up on someone” when there is no such thing anymore

Hell, we say “cloud” when we really mean “someone’s server farm”

I think you two are talking past each other. “People wearing swastikas” is not a class of people because nazism isn’t a religion. They are just people making a choice to wear a shitty and offensive armband. Classes are about things people either couldn’t possibly help; such as nationality, race, sex, disability, color…or things so closely tied to their identity that they should never be expected to change; such as gender, sexuality, and religion.

Then there are some outside of the standard discourse as well, like prisoners are a protected class when it comes to psychological research.
