Yes I am, hello o/
False equivalency fallacy.
Honestly the hardcore tankies initially soured me from joining the fediverse at first, until I understood how the fediverse functioned and realized it was just a loud minority that held extreme views. It’s still disturbing to read genocide denialism while openly supporting things such as authoritarianism and Russian imperialism.
Trump pushed the big lie that the election was stolen. Trump lost in the courts[1](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/25/us/elections/trump-campaign-lawsuits.html) including the Supreme Court.[2](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55283024) Then he tried to pressure state officials.[3](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2021/01/03/trump-pressured-georgia-election-official-call-washington-post-report-says/4119948001/) He tried to pressure Pence.[4](https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/05/trump-pressures-pence-election-results-455069)
So what does Trump do after exhausting all nonviolent methods of overturning the election? He turns to his supporters and lights them up making inflammatory statements such as;
We are going to fight for the survival of the nation.
Now is not the time to retreat, its to fight harder.
We will never give in, never back down, never surrender.
We will fight like hell.
You have to get your people to fight.
He primed them for weeks.
State officials had started getting death threats weeks before the attempted insurrection following the general election.[5](https://www.npr.org/sections/biden-transition-updates/2020/12/01/940961602/someones-going-to-get-killed-ga-official-blasts-gop-silence-on-election-threats) Trump saw first hand what violence was being created as his supporters rioted and vandalized black churches in Washington back in December.[6](https://www.thestar.com/news/world/us/2020/12/13/black-churches-vandalized-four-stabbed-dozens-arrested-at-pro-trump-rallies-in-washington.html)
Trump didn’t stop his incitement after the initial violence, he got more specific. He told his supporters how, when, and where. He gave them 18 days notice inviting them to the rally telling them to be there, that it will be wild.[7](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/06/us/politics/capitol-mob-trump-supporters.html) And on the day of the insurrection Trump told his supporters to march on the Capitol and fight like hell.
Following the riot Trump continued to promote the big lie that had incited the insurrection. After the mob was dispersed, Trump praised and sympathized with the mob in a video he released, claiming once again that the election had been stolen.[8](https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-tells-rioters-i-know-how-you-feel-draws-bipartisan-condemnation-11609977209) Then he praised the insurrection in a tweet after the mob had been dispersed. He told his mob to remember Jan. 6 forever. He said that he loved the insurrectionists and that the violent mob were special people.

I think NCD provides enough mobikcube memes to be self-sustainable. Which is another reason why RA demanding the sub no longer be NSFW is farcical lol
Maybe we’ll see an influx of new users from r/NCD. Maybe we’ll see some more activity here! I only lurk these parts (same on reddit) because it’s fun to read shitposts every now and then.
It’s pretty dumb for RA to go after NCD, I clicked on far too many NSFW posts without realizing what it was as they weren’t labeled. The arguments NCD mods present with sources are true. I feel like it’s reddit just trying to stem the loss of money. Their IPO valuation has lost 41% of its value in a year[1](https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2023-06-15/reddit-should-heed-its-users-as-well-as-investors) and now their bottom line is being affected because users realized advertisements aren’t shown on NSFW subs.[2](https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/6/23786474/reddit-nsfw-moderator-protest-final-warning)

Lol true, Lemmy already building its own lore.
Hey, thanks for the source! Oh my goodness, this is awful. I’ll have to go through this court filing.

The sequence of events from Elon Musk acquiring Twitter to now is an incredible journey.
Elon Musk bought a social media company for tens of billions, attempted to back out of the deal but couldn’t because of his ineptitude by signing away the ability to reneg on the deal.[1](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/12/technology/twitter-musk-lawsuit-reasons.html)
Then there was the freedom of speech advocacy from Musk where he ultimately unbanned racists and then began sharing bigoted Tweets. But it’s only freedom of speech for his bigoted supporters, when authoritarian governments ask Musk to censor people/tweets he abides by their requests.[2](https://www.forbes.com/sites/katherinehamilton/2023/04/27/twitter-has-complied-with-almost-every-government-request-for-censorship-since-musk-took-over-report-finds/)
The site becomes inundated with the alt right, it’s become rife with bigotry.[3](https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2023/05/elon-musk-ron-desantis-2024-twitter/674149/)
There was the whole verified blue check mark debacle where verification became something you could pay for, with people making fake “official” accounts. For example a fake account impersonating a pharmaceutical company caused their stock to drop abruptly following a satirical tweet.[4](https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucelee/2022/11/12/fake-eli-lilly-twitter-account-claims-insulin-is-free-stock-falls-43/)
Twitter engages in mass layoffs and multiple things break on the site. There are also reports that they can’t pay rent in certain locations across the globe. Twitter is hemorrhaging advertisors, as they record a 59% reduction in advertisement sales.[5](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/05/technology/twitter-ad-sales-musk.html)
Elon Musk posts tweets seemingly apologizing for some of the changes and says he will follow the will of the people by posting polls for users to vote on policy changes. Musk asks if he should step down, to which the majority vote in favour of his removal. He then goes on a tirade about bots after losing in the poll. He goes on to say that only paid subscribers will be permited to vote in future polls. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.[6](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/dec/20/elon-musk-breaks-silence-after-10-million-twitter-users-vote-for-him-to-step-down)
The crème de la crème is Elon Musk implementing a new restriction where you have to be logged in to see tweets and restricting the number of tweets you can view. Inadvertently DDOSing his own site.

Wow that takes me back lol
This isn’t entirely the fault of the FTC, much of the underlying problems are because of the courts.
The FTC under Biden has been going after many different industries, from aviation to publishing, while the DoJ has been trying to stop mergers in fields such as healthcare and food. Both the FTC and DoJ have lost many cases in the courts in recent years. For example, the DoJ went after chicken producers for price fixing, but the jury ruled that they were innocent. Both the DoJ and the FTC lost over half a dozen cases just last year.[1](https://www.reuters.com/legal/us-keeps-losing-antitrust-court-battles-few-expect-pullback-2022-10-04/)
It’s become pretty common for companies to prepare for litigation, they no longer believe that cooperating with antitrust agencies to negotiate a settlement is feasible under the current administration.
The current administration is litigating most mergers, and has had some success. For example the DoJ successfully stopped both Lockheed Martin and NVIDIA from buying competitors while the FTC blocked healtchare company mergers in some states.
But now the Supreme Court has passed a decision that would allow companies to shop for judges so that they can challenge the constitutional authority of federal regulators like the FTC and EPA.[2](https://news.bloomberglaw.com/antitrust/federal-agencies-face-constitutional-fights-after-high-court-loss)

I’m in a similar position when it comes to sports, football (soccer) in particular. The instances are still new, so I’ve been trying to engage in the comments and upvoting all the posts. It oddly reminds me of early Reddit when there were far fewer users and it felt more intimate, like you’d know everyone on the sports subreddit lol. I think instance on the Fediverse/Lemmy will continue to grow over time, just keep engaging :)
I used Twitter for all my local updates - from what’s happening at city hall to live traffic and weather updates.
What’s up with CEO’s messing with social media companies. Huffman and Musk seem to enjoy ruining good things :(
My issue with Jerboa has been that it doesn’t register when I have copied things so it’s difficult to paste links/articles/quotes.
I might try out Sync so that I can contribute more informative responses, but I like the idea of Jerboa being open source as that’s what drew me to the app.
