“Mac OS X” was rebranded to “macOS” (or rather, “macOS” is the successor to “Mac OS X”, but really just is the same but newer, the “upgrade” was just like any other update between Mac OS X versions afaik), and “Mac OS 9” does not belong to “macOS”.

ja klar, es gibt auch den begriff des mittleren osten im deutschen! aber soweit ich weiß heißen die beiden aber jeweils etwas anderes. der nahe osten ist eher das, was im englischen “middle east” heißt, und der mittlere ist was anderes, da zählt indien glaub ich dazu oder so.

stimmt, das auch. zangendeutsch ist eher bewusst zurecht gebogen, denglisch eher aus schmuddeligkeit mit der sprache.

was du beschreibst ist eher der unterschied zwischen deutsch mit anglizismen, und der entsprechenden übersetzung ins zangendeutsche.

nach meinem verständnis ist denglisch eher was anderes. meistens verstehe ich darunter englisch das bemerkbar aus dem deutschen falsch oder zumindest komisch übersetzt wurde. beispiele:

• glücklich – lucky
• ein foto machen – make a photo
• handschuhe – hand shoes

…jedoch versteht man auch unter denglisch, wie auch hier im mem: sachen aus dem englischen entnommen, die ins deutsche übersetzt werden, aber eigentlich nicht ganz funktionieren, bzw ausversehen gemacht werden. beispiele:

• makes sense – macht sinn
• middle east – mittlerer osten
• personality – personalität
• literally – literarisch oder literalisch
• i’m fine with it – ich bin fein damit (wie im mempfosten hier)

dies ist sehr ähnlich zum zangendeutschen. aber was ist der unterschied?

ganz trocken betrachtet gibt es keinen inhärenten unterschied zwischen zangendeutsch und denglisch vom englischen ins deutsche. der wesentliche unterschied (mit kontext) ist, dass man dort zangendeutsch macht, wo sonst anglizismen verwendet werden, wo hingegen beim denglischen man eher nicht normalerweise einen anglizismus benutzt, es aber trotzdem eben aus dem englischen entnommen hat und falsch übersetzt hat.

“real time” chats, that is, instant messengers, have their time and place. they have been around for a while, but they never really replaced forums. until discord came, which kind of then did. which i guess also resulted from facebook groups, twitter, instagram, and reddit first kind of partially replacing forums, after which then forums really fell out of favor, and discord really is way easier and better to interact with than any of the others mentioned (aside from maybe reddit). people are also just lazy and jusy use whatever works.

and people then started using discord like a forum since forums are almost dead and discord is just simple and easy. so many guides, info, announcements, etc. are put in discord like it is a forum since the admittedly amazing features for roles and bots make it convenient.

it all gets lost in a sea instant messaging organizing. to find something, one must go to one of a a bunch pinned messages in one of the bajillion channels that links to a post (i say oost, it is actually a message) which in turn links to a series of messages where someone knowledgeable posted something useful intertwined with shitpost messages fromither people. if you are lucky, someone made a google doc for a guide, but those also suck, and they are also not easily found unless you know the guy who knows the guy who knows which pinned message in which channel has the link to it.

i live in germany and to me telegram doesn’t feel niche at all.

a lot of younger people use it a bit like discord, like for group stuff. organizing (like e.g. political activism), finding apartents in berlin, and yes, getting drugs as well. also some worklplaces use it (which i think is terrible). it is also preferred by a lot of people to communicate via telegram over signal or whatsapp in situations where people don’t want to give away their number, like online dating.

schwierige übersetzung. wenn es um nen keller geht passt es vielleicht so gerade eben.

die übersetzung die mir einflällt wäre “muffig”, wenn man sich auf den geruch bezieht. aber muffig nur im sinne von kellerpilzgeruch.

würde auch eher “muffiges kraut” statt “feuchtes kraut” zu geil riechenden cannabisblüten sagen.

ich würde fast diese übersetzung raus nehmen weil ich sie nie irgendwo gesehen habe.

Edith: Bei Mems (oder “Maimais”), gilt das gleiche, da das ja eh von “dank weed” kommt. Muffige Mems/Michmichs/Maimais klingt doch getreuer als feuchte Mems/michmichs/Maimais… Oder liege ich da falsch?
