Woman over 30 here. I just keep a bottle of water, and in the summer, an electric infuser that thwarts mosquitos (too many in my area). I make a point to not have phones or alarm clocks by.

My dad would always smoke at home. It was what it was, standard in Greece at the time, so what could I do? Ask him not to smoke so I could get beaten up? So I survived by shutting up and leaving home after 18.

My favorite idea is Linux or Android-derived, or a completely new, Rust-based AGPL-licensed OS, running on 100% open RISC-V hardware. Same for its phone equivalent. All chips must be open, no secret code in them.

The bread slice can be kept in a plastic bag to stay soft. The avocado must be sliced at only 1/3 (don’t expose the rest), put in a plastic bag with a bit of lemon juice the night before.

Smoked salmon in scrambled eggs, 1/3 avocado, a slice of toasted gluten-free bread, a few leaves of baby kale or spinach, orange juice (preferably freshly squeezed), and as many fruits you want, chopped into a plain yogurt. That’s the ultimate breakfast for me. I like it so much, that I often have it for lunch or dinner too.

I would never touch oatmeal, because I’m celiac: three Canadian research papers have found that even GF oats are actually contaminated in the field, and even if not, oats contain the avenin protein that is chemically too close to gluten, and so many immune systems mistake it for it, and react badly. My gluten-free bread mentioned above would have only rice flour, potato flour/starch, and tapioca starch, but no other grain apart from rice (I react to all other grains).

My husband and I canceled them all 3 days ago. We had Netflix, Prime, AppleTV+, Max, Paramount+, Hulu, Peacock, and Disney+. We’re moving back to Europe in November, so they all had to go. But even if we were to stay in the US, I’d probably just keep Prime, so I could just rent what I wanted to see and nothing else. Instead, I’ve stocked up with a few classic sci-fi Blu-rays to take with us in Europe, and we will have 2 US-coded BD players to keep us playing them until old age.

I wish I could… I can’t drive, and I have celiac disease so bad that it has destroyed my gut so much, that even gluten free cakes make me sick.

Traditional painting and illustration! While I now know that I never needed to spend more than $250 for professional-grade tools, I’ve spent about $18,000. As for sales in 3.5 years, they don’t account for more than $800. For that I mostly blame Instagram where it’s not possible to grow anymore organically and get an audience & potential customers. Also, as a word of advice for anyone who wants to also do illustration and don’t want to do the same mistakes that I did. All you need is:

• The Lukas 24 watercolor palette of student grade ($18). It’s good enough and these days most paintings are scanned, so even if not all colors are lightfast, it’s not a big deal. Few people only buy originals, most go for prints. If you’re going to go selling originals, consider the Daniel Smith primaries set of 6 colors for $40.
• A set of brushes of different sizes, including a flat brush and round brushes including a long thin one to do details, $15
• Pencil, eraser, sharpener, $15
• A set of gouache. Best bang for the buck for professional quality is DaVinci brand ($10 per large tube), or if you want to go cheap, the Himi Miya set for $25. If you go for the cheaper stuff, it’s still advised to get a better quality white tube, so it’s truly opaque (the cheap stuff aren’t opaque enough). So go for Holbein or DaVinci white for $10-$15.
• Soft core colored pencils, set of 48+. $15 (you will mostly need the muted colors to enhance the painting with harder edges)
• Grey, sepia, black ink pens, and manga ink brush pens (for some types of paintings only), $40
• 100% cotton paper for watercolor $25, or any watercolor paper for gouache $10 (gouache works on any, watercolor is more nuanced).
• Brush watercolor markers, e.g. Tombows or Ecoline – in case you want to do such type of illustration too, $30 for a few muted colors.
• Masking fluid for watercolors, $10
• White gel pen and white Posca pen (0.7mm) for white highlights, $15
• Faber Castell white pencil soft pastel, $4
• Caran d’ache Luminance white colored pencil, $4 (the cheaper colored pencils above again don’t include a strong white)
• Caran d’ache Neocolor II white crayon, $4
• A ruler, to help you sketch.

I included various mediums above in white color because highlights are king in illustration, and each provides a different look and feel, depending on the painting. Happy painting!

Unfortunately, that’s the wrong thinking. There are different kinds of mods for controversial topics. Let’s say: UFOs. Mods on one lemmy instance might allow only sightings (that’s the deal with the reddit one, for example), but another one might allow also for abductions (as it should, since it’s part and parcel with the whole thing for many people). So disallowing communities from existing on different servers, it controls the narrative and creates pigeonhole opinions. It needs to be something for everyone instead.

The phenomenon is here since the late '40s. So militarizing space now might be about the phenomenon (or at least, in part). My problem is that many people think that this whole thing is a distraction. It’s not. It seems that several Congress members, from both parties, are interested in unveiling where trillions of dollars went by the military, that can’t account for most of it. And by digging, they found the ufo program, and they’re trying to get to the bottom of it. Instead, people see it the other way around: a monolithic evil government trying to distract us or scare us so they get more money. This is just laughable from where I sit, having experienced what I experienced, and having closely looking at what’s going on with the congress.

This kind of meme is disheartening seeing on Lemmy, that’s supposed to be full of open minded people. And I write that as someone who saw a real UFO in 1990 in Greece, together with others. The tech in 1990 was not there for the US to create a silent, gravity-defying, appearing and disappearing in-front-of-our-eyes vehicle. So this meme, AND the comments from the other lemmy posts in the last 2 days about the recent ufo events are rather insulting to me. The phenomenon is real.

Edit: Also, I don’t understand the downvotes! You downvote anything you find going against your grain? My experience is my experience and it’s equally as valid!

Thank you for the continuing work! Just one bug report: when I click to load lemmy (either .world or .ml) from my homepage of various links, I’m logged out. If I refresh the page though, I’m logged in!

When I was 6 I told a lady that she was a teacher for a group of women under a government program to learn how to make clothes, that she was arrogant, snob, and know it all. She was. She was extremely “look how above you I am” kind of a person. I stand by it to this day, at age 50 now. My mom still remembers that day with terror, because she felt extremely ashamed that I shouted these words in the presence of everyone there. She forced me to apologize, and I did so, but I didn’t really mean it. She was terribly annoying.

I use the Murena /e/ OS (developed in France). It’s android-based, but totally degoogled (more so than LineageOS). Happy with it so far. I also installed Ubuntu Touch in an older phone, but it’s definitely not ready.

I see. I rather use only open source apps on that phone then (I have one normal google one, and one totally de-googled and open source).

I can’t find it on F-Droid app store. I use a de-googled android phone, so no play store is there.
