  • Its not a few articles. NYT has done nearly 200 articles and editorials on Biden bad debate and continued coverage of same subject/him being removed.

Like, its a full course press to push a specific narrative, they learned nothing from 2016 and the disproportionate coverage compared to Trumps authoritarianism-- both in debate and in general, is complete bullshit, a “But her emails” 2.0 being spearheaded by dogshit CNN and NYT.

I want to be clear I don’t think questioning Biden is a problem–he’s performed shitty lately. If you think he should be replaced, thats reasonable, ill support whoever the dem candidate is regardless.

I’m talking about endlessly covering every bit of minutia on this while generally ignoring Trumps fascism. Mainstream media is a major part of the problem.

  • How many years of right-wing propaganda do we have to endure to realize that the election will be close because Trumps people are in endless propaganda loops…like, he has a solid floor and democrats are all polling like 40-44%.

No one is going to wipe the floor with him because technology has been used to lock alot of people into propaganda frames.

Like, if you think he should go because of optics, ok thats your opinion, but on SUBSTANCE his presidency is strong and his polling hasn’t moved much post debate in the aggregate. Like, very possibly they pivot to Kamala to get a quick bump, and then some bullshit RW talking point dominates news cycle in 3 weeks and then return to the “its gonna be tight as shit” norm. Don’t fucking do all this shit because he’s not up by 10 points in the polls, Jesus christ.

  • Agree with everything except why Biden won’t do it–its a paradox of trying to maintain our status quo democracy with the traditional tools of our status quo democracy.

I recognize that its a horrible asymmetry of power that they will have presidents that abuse power while dems will try to respect traditional lines of power…but the populace and parties themselves are also a correlary assymetry—cult 45 will cheerlead any horrible thing their guy does (or pretend it isn’t real, or isn’t really that bad, whatever the moment requires to avoid cognitive dissonance), but it Joe abused power, both Republicans and Democrats in power and as citizens across the nation would cry out for accountability.

It’s a right clusterfuck, that is for sure.

  • To this point, the military has remained an independent institution that has followed rule of law–the Iraq War, however awful, was legally authorized (note: I am not saying that soldiers haven’t done illegal things, but the military writ large has been beyond the reach of the president to be wielded like a weapon to do explicitly illegal things).

Trump mused bombing antiquities in his presidency, and the military swiftly responded that they are bound not to follow illegal orders.

My fear now is that if military leadership falls into the wrong hands, immunity can be used to argue that the conduct is no longer considered illegal, or the line becomes so blurred that it ceases to functionally exist.

If that happened under a president like Trump, God help us, every horrible nightmare outcome could be on the table.
