  • Wow, already in the first week. Expect to hear this joke periodically over the course of his term, each time getting slightly more seriously stated. By the third year, everyone will have heard it so much it’ll be accepted as a perfectly reasonable idea. And the media will help that along in how they report on it. This is the tried and true playbook and it will work, not only for this plan but for their other plans.

Take for example the planned mass deportations. They’ll start out with finding some people who have committed crimes (or they claim have), deport them and no one will object to that, it’s already how it’s done. As they move on to those whose crimes are not very consequential, like traffic tickets or whatever, if libs say anything against it, they’ll pounce on it and amplify stories how the libs are overreacting and want criminals to be left free and have open borders. Harping on any criticism in cases that are technically justified is key to getting the public used to pooh-poohing any dissent as they start escalating and going after the law-abiding (other than being here illegally ofc) immigrants, families with mixed status members, DACA/Dreamers, parents of children born here and thus citizens and deporting the children with them, etc.

  • When I was 11, that was 5th grade and we would rotate being on “safety patrol” which is where you would stand, by yourself, at certain intersections and make sure the younger kids waited for cars to pass and it was safe before crossing the street. Of course we walked to those spots by ourselves. And by age 12 I was babysitting other people’s kids.

So those people and their rules are crazy. If we really aren’t letting kids walk somewhere by themselves by age 10-11, no wonder our society is so dysfunctional. This has got to be very detrimental to the personal and social development of the children.

  • I would have thought a red state like Georgia would not have what they call “Nanny state” laws? I’d like to see the actual wording of the “reckless conduct” law they would be charging her under. Does it actually specify how, when and where your children can go unsupervised and what ages of children it applies to, or do the cops just get to “use their own judgement”?

edit to add: I feel sorry for kids growing up today and apparently in the last 20 years or so. When I was a kid our mothers just said “Be back by supper” and we went out and played wherever. they didn’t know where we were. No cell phones to track us.

  • This is exactly correct. Hey guys, while typing all these (dare I call them “hysterical”?) comments freaking out that the number of possible sex partners might be lower than before, could you take a moment to stop and actually consider what WoodScientist is saying?

Getting pregnant and having a baby when you aren’t ready for it completely changes the lives and limits future possibilities for both the father and mother, and much more so for the mother who 99% of the time is the main caregiver. It’s the woman who has the greatest risk by far.

Besides the risk to a woman socially and career-wise if she gets pregnant, it’s dangerous. There’s a chance of dying or permanent health consequences from it, physical and mental. And remember that healthcare will be worse too because they’ll be repealing the ACA and/or removing a lot of the protections the ACA provides, like requiring insurance companies to cover maternity and any complications. Many Clinics that used to be there to provide low-income women with maternal healthcare, abortion services, cancer screenings, birth control, etc. have already been shut down in red states that have banned abortion.

So a lot fewer women will even have health insurance and it won’t cover as much. Plus the odds of getting pregnant will be higher since access to contraception will be more restricted (not covered by insurance and possibly even banned entirely).

So this about more than just your fear of maybe getting less sex. Your biggest possible risk is financial, if you get held responsible for child support. Risks to women are a hell of a lot higher. They gotta do what they gotta do so.
