Consider that the ones who aren’t as enlightened as you just haven’t had the privilege to get the free time, financial flexibility, and education to spend a lot of time and effort self-reflecting on their own intellectual purity. Consider also that there are many in that group who count you as anti-intellectual for your prioritization of the ideals of a squeaky clean intellectual platform over the material realities of living in the world and having to engage in conflict and contradictions.

There are Muslim and Christian Israelis and Jewish and Christian Palestinians. Sure, religion plays somewhat of a role in the conflict, but this is no more of a holy war than Operation Enduring Freedom or the Russo-Ukranian war, except that you wouldn’t ever accuse those of being about religion except in the context of this argument as a defense mechanism.

So what you’re saying is Israel has killed over 4000 Palestinians this decade, including 200 this year prior to this attack, and Palestine launches a counter-attack that leaves 40 dead, and because Palestine retaliated to initial attacks they are now the aggressor “definitionally”? Is the only way to not be labeled the aggressor to soak up every single death at the hands of apartheid in stride?
