  • The market is never good in India, when you have a million CS grads trying to compete for a few thousand open positions. And it just went downhill after 2021/2022. And yes, I am very picky about not going the service-based route, but that’s because I’d rather be a hippie wagie than a IT sweatshop wagie.

I have also optimized my CV for ATS. I’ve custom-made my own template, which is very similar to Jake’s resume.

It’s hopeless in this shitty recession. I’ve been applying since 2019, and still no progress. Applied on wellfound, indeed, internshala.

College is a fucking waste of time. And no amount of open source contribution matters, it’s all bullshit.

I wasted my time contributing and creating issues for GitLab and Nixpkgs. At most, I had an opportunity for MLH, fucking lost it.

All I have is a bunch of stupid t-shirts, keychains and stickers from GitLab. As if that can feed me.

Even a CS degree is useless in this day and age. Gee, did I waste four years of my time, only to end up unemployed? My other fellow CS grads are in positions that have nothing to do with their degree. Sales, HR, QA. What the fuck?

I started applying since the second year of my university. That would be around 2019. 2023 will end soon. That’s how long I’ve been jobless. “Oh, then just apply for an internship” - I’ve been doing this exact fucking thing. All my applications have been ghosted, or I’ll get presented with extremely difficult projects, that are for a mid-exp dev.

If you’re re-considering your career in tech, just become a chef or something. The rat-race is mentally draining, I’m at my final straw, and I’d rather burn this stupid degree to warm myself to sleep.

  • At this point, I don’t even know. I am actually interested in niche stuff like embedded, graphics and system programming, but there’s no scope in my country. I’m not really finding it fulfilling to learn web technologies. For now, I’m working on a NextJS tutorial to learn about WebSocket and perhaps something about meta-frameworks. Looking for an internship again, because entry-level jobs are next to impossible, at least with the unbelievable requirements, but internships roles in Wellfound are also absolute garbage. They’re looking for a 5+ YOE engineer with the salary of an intern. Fuck the labor laws in India.
