I fell behind following this show, and my thoughts on episodes 4-7 are…
The CG characters continue to be really well done. The girls have a lot of personality in their body language, and the visual composition is really good, even if the POV is a little flat, and we don’t get cartoony asides, like Bocchi turning into a worm, for example.
I especially enjoy watching best girl Subaru, the long dark haired drummer, the comic relief in the group, despite her serious acting training and hime/princess hairstyle which implies a wealthy background.
The music is carried by Nina, the MC’s, stylish vocals, but for a story about a band, the mixing seems to almost mute the the instruments. At least in these episodes the producers seemed to get the mix of instruments correct to what is shown on screen. The audience seems strangely inaudible, which they shouldn’t be in the tiny venues they’re supposed to be playing in.
The story itself involves a lot of fears of abandonment. Nina, and two other girls were previously abandoned by bandmates. Momoka, who left a rising band on the verge of stardom, wants to give up music. Subaru wants to leave her famous actress grandmother’s shadow: She’s even named after her grandma’s breakout role. But she’s afraid to tell her grandma she wants to follow her own path.
Anyway, a lot of “I’m leaving the band!” announcements drive the drama
