Another week in the books means another weekly general thread. Come one, come all and give thie thread all your manga questions, comments, etc. Some examples to get the brain juices flowing:

  • I think there should be more manga about manga authors. We don’t see that perspective often enough.
  • Is there a Garfield manga adaptation? It is my favorite comic!
  • Is Tokyo full of children living alone at home because their parents work somewhere else?

Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).

This past week, I haven’t been picking up new series as much as I did the week before. Mainly, been trying to get caught up on some series that I have been recommended from this community. Right now I am fully caught up on Ri-chan and am working my way through Akebi-chan. The art in Akebi is really great and I like how the author isn’t afraid to have whole pages just devoted to the art with no dialogue.

That being said, I see where the criticisms of Akebi for excess fanservice come from. No specific thing has been egregious enough to turn me away, but the volume of suggestive art feels like it is a bit much. In no other manga have I ever thought to myself that the author must really like drawing people taking off and putting on clothes. It happens a lot.

After I get through Akebi, I wanted to check out “I Want to End the ‘I Love You’ Game” which I saw was posted here this past week. Looking forward to it!
