This shot is excellent. The “huh? …!” moment when viewer notices that cid doesn’t belong with the rest of the scenery. I love overhead shot when we only see legs. The people behind windows unaware of what is going on. The confusion of the viewer at what the heck cid is doing.
Masterfully directed.
Kazuya Nakanishi has had a hell of a showing between the first season and this season. I hadn’t seen any of his other works prior to TEIS, but he is one to watch for sure. One thing that has also impressed me this season is how economical they have been with animation. They have reused a lot of animation this season, but been able to make it not as noticeable by changing framing or context, or they just leaned into it and made it into a joke (the moon is red, the frenzy has begun…). The staff has really demonstrated a lot of passion for the source by including lots of anime original content that feels right at home and even incorporating several references to WN-only content that never even made it into the LNs.
They even reused the animations from season 1 opening a few EPs ago.
So black rose is actually a big ass dragon huh, thought it would be something like idk poison gas.
They really don’t provide much of an explanation for it in the show, but they go into more detail in the LN. The Black Rose is really just a way to open up a passageway to other worlds. In this case, Mordred opened up to the Fourth Realm (iirc that is what he calls it), which is home to the big dragon monster called Ragnarok. However, the Black Rose can open up to other worlds as well.
They flew through content this episode, presumably to give us a big, climactic fight scene in the finale like they did last season. To cram so much story into such a small amount of time there were a lot of changes from the LNs, so many that I don’t have the energy to even begin to get into it. One thing that I will note is different is that the way the anime makes the balcony scene between Cid and Rose play out, it makes it seem like Rose should know that Cid is Shadow. However, the way it played out in the LN is very different, so don’t be surprised when anime Rose doesn’t put it together in the future.
Really looking forward to see how they deliver on the fight scenes next episode. Also, I can’t wait to see people’s reactions to how the season will end.
@shinobu@ani.social In this episode, my focus is only on the epsilon scene in the bathroom :ElainaSmug:
Especially when Cid is amazed at how big and real Epsilon’s oppai were :blobhyperthink:
