Nice big budget battle, but the storyboarding wasn’t clear enough, and the action felt confusing, like where did the 2nd cylinderhead come from? Or how exactly did Rouge throw one of those things?
That, and I’m not feeling invested in the characters.
“Sonic Lady” granny was cool though, and when another passenger took care of one of the boarding party that was cool too.
I feel like there’s a decent story in there somewhere, but the direction and editing are flawed, and failing to communicate it to the screen.
I 100% agree with @zabadoh@ani.social, big flashy fights but not much substance underneath. I’ll give it one more episode.
Like the action sequence and music in this episode. Still dont know where the story is trying to go.
The OST was pretty great. I also loved the OP for the show. Also confused on the story, but still a little hopeful it might yet come together into something coherent. Please don’t take such a cool looking and sounding show and ruin it with a story that makes no sense…
It’s not a great sign when the first episode tells us nothing and then the second opens with a bunch of lore infodumping. They didn’t even really answer the big questions and mostly raised new ones for me (for example, where are all the nice aliens?)
The fight was flashy, but as zabadoh said, the storyboarding felt really off, and it made the action a bit hard to follow at times.
The characterization was also a little strange. I still don’t feel like I know our mains very well (except that Naomi is the type to wake a sleeping stranger just so she can ask him about his life instead of minding her own business), and the only characters I feel much attachment to are the handful of people I feel like we’re not going to see much of going forward, like the granny, the doctor, and the veteran android.
I like to give original anime the full 3 episode test but I’m already pretty checked out.
This series is breaking my heart. I was so enthused about it based on the style and vibes from episode 1, hoping that they would fill out the story more in the coming episodes. However, we still don’t really have any idea what is going on and the story this episode seems completely disconnected from the first episode.
I still love the aesthetics of this show (and love the OP as well). I do agree with others in this thread that the action was hard to follow though. It seems more like they came up with big set pieces or moves but then couldn’t really figure out how to string them together into a well-choreographed sequence.
I am still going to stick with this show for now on the hope that it can deliver a story to match the visuals, but my hope is diminished after this week.
