Finally, someone says it. Always hated those endless “happy cake day” replies. Sometimes it was 20 or 30 replies on a single comment of nothing but that cake day nonsense.
Back when I was a prolific Reddit karma whore (years ago) it was the best way to get free points for doing absolutely nothing. No purpose otherwise.
Hopefully with time we move away from the redditisms. A lot of overlap at the moment. Let’s be a new community. Not a mirror of them.
Cultures adapt and shift slowly, but I would love for us to embrace becoming something new instead of trying to recapture what once was.

Someone used the term fledditors. That was me. I signed up on the Wednesday to beehaw after the boycott. I started lemmy.world the Sunday after. IDK. I like lemmy.world better, but beehaw is good too.
My Reddit Cakeday used to be nothing special. It’s June 30th. There’s a certain irony behind all this somewhere.
