This is the trick… how to get aid into the hands of the people who need it without empowering the terrorists who have control of the place from top to bottom.

This is by design and intent by Hamas in case that wasn’t entirely obvious.

Funding terrorism is unethical. Such is the forced quandary the terrorists have placed the West in.

Giving people water and food is not funding terrorism. Starving people, denying them basic human rights and killing inocent people is funding terrorism. Yes, the humanitarian aids will also benefit hamas, but that does not give us the right to deny people their basic human rights

Giving terrorists the ability to control the population is enabling terrorism. That’s how they’ve extended and maintained control of the strip for nearly two decades.

That the UN allowed UNRWA to reach this level of involvement is a tragedy on its own but this isn’t news, it’s been reported on for over a decade. That the UN has failed to act is the reason why the people are going to suffer. Trying to guilt nations into supporting terrorism under the guise of aid is disgusting as well.

UNRWA needs to be dismantled and the care of the people of Gaza should be handled by the UNHCR going forward. If the UN can’t coordinate it’s own agencies to transition this, that’s yet another failure of the institution and I’m still not blaming the countries that are withholding funds at this point. They’re right to do so until guarantees that the money isn’t going to be used to further conflict can be established.

Giving terrorists the ability to control the population is enabling terrorism.

And leaving a people that has nowhere to go without food, medicine and water, what would that be? I’m asking genuinely, even if Hamas completely controls the distribution of aids within Gaza in order to maintain control, do you really believe that withdrawing these aids (and therefore causing death and starvation) would be at all justifiable?

That would be the problem Hamas wants. I absolutely believe this is an absolute requirement in order to dismantle Hamas.

The reality of this tragic situation is that the vast majority of deaths in this conflict are the direct result of the actions of the power group running the strip. Yes people will die in order to free Palestinians from the grips of Hamas. If only the UN had heeded the past decade of calls to investigate UNRWA this would have been avoided. The blame doesn’t fall on those who are pulling funding, it belongs to UNRWA and Hamas.

There is no answer here and that’s by design. You cannot continue with the current conditions, that must be obvious to everyone after the past few months.

ELI5 how do you organise and distribute a humanitarian aid for 2.3M people in a war torn country, without the needed infrastructure and people on the ground? Shall we also mention that Israel is doing very little to streamline the delivery of this humanitarian aid, actively blocking it either entering the country or reaching the whole of Gaza?

If this isn’t a collective punishment, what is? And it also happens to be a war crime. Do you refuse to acknowledge Israel’s involvement of this war crime? Or is Israel some special country for which international laws don’t apply?

This is the problem Hamas manufactured. The sad reality is you can’t dismantle UNRWA and Hamas without further human suffering.

People have been identifying this problem for a decade, if only the UN had heeded these warnings this all could have been avoided. The fault isn’t with the funding nations.

You do realise that any humanitarian organisation needs to co-ordinate its actions with the local authorities in the territory to make sure that they can deliver the help. And in the case of Gaza this seems to be Hamas. I am sure that every non profit or humanitarian organisation that operates in Gaza has established some kind of communication with Hamas, shall we disband all of them then? Like WHO, WFP, the Red Crescent, UNICEF, …

But hey, let’s change them without any plan how or who’s going to be responsible for the humanitarian aid during an active war conflict. This is a wonderful idea!

Just because the civilians in Gaza didn’t suffer enough.

UNRWA is a fucking terrorist organization. They don’t deserve a dime.

Of course it wasn’t designed to support terrorism, but it CLEARLY and obviously does now which is why they’ve rightfully suspended funding. It needs to be dismantled, Palestinians should have always been handled by UNHCR.

          How do you conclude

but it CLEARLY and obviously does now which is why they’ve rightfully suspended funding. It needs to be dismantled

Where is the evidence that proves UNRWA to do so?
          UNRWA staff sacked without evidence
          allegations remain murky
And of course it needs to be considered, that Israel brought forth these allegations, just after the ICJ has ruled Israel to need to abide by preliminary measures, to reduced the risk of a plausible genocide against the Palestinians. It is well probable that this is a smoke grenade to deflect from the ruling made by the ICJ, as it gives reason not only to doubt the moral, but also the legal position of Israel.

That you’re refusing to engage with the mountains of evidence that un watch has compiled shows your biases. Coupled with what’s come out just this weekend, there’s no more disputing UNRWA is a terrorist organization.

You mention mountains of evidence, yet you do not provide a single link.

But since i know UN-watch. It is a pro Israeli propaganda organization and not an independent NGO. They were even organisationally intertwined with the world jewish council and other pro Israeli lobbies. They almost exclusively focus on discrediting UNRWA. They cannot be considered a neutral source.

But your claim that UNRWA would be a terrorist organization then gets entirely absurd. Terror means to employ violence to achieve political goals. so the term “terrorist organization” defines an organization that has political goals and primarily employs violence to achieve them. Neither has UNRWA poitical goals, nor is there any credibility to the claim, the organization would engage in violence. It cannot always be excluded, that some UNRWA employees may have done so. But neither did they do it in the capacity of the organization, nor did they make up a relevant number of the UNRWA employees.

Of course if there is credible evidence that UNRWA employees have engaged in illegal activities that needs to be investigated and if the claim should hold true, there needs to be consequences.

But destroying UNRWA like you demand, only serves to commit genocide to the Palestinians in Gaza by destroying the only organization that currently can provide a bare and insufficent minimum of humanitarian aid to millions of starving people. It is in direct violation of the ICJ ruling that demanded Israel to take actions to provide adequate humanitarian aid, and it shows with what can only be described in the “banality of evil” how Israel is set to continue the destruction of the Palestinian people.

Un watch. Org. That you’re denying facts because you’re bigoted against the source just shows you’re not intellectually honest here. Facts don’t have to be neutral to be facts.

Also, the congressional testimony that’s under oath and on record.

Both widely available yet you’re refusing to acknowledge reality.

Reality is UNRWA is a terrorist organization making things worse for Gazans and better for the Palestinian refugee industrial complex. It’s going to be dismantled and Palestinians will be better off for it, eventually. In the meantime, Qatar or Iran can pay the tab for the mess they sponsored.
