I’m not sure what the fleet hoped to accomplish by bombarding the entire area with conventional weapons, since these seem to have limited affect, at best, against the alien mechs.

Bravern taking over the incoming missiles was cool, and totally OP.

Bravern also appeared to give them a power up, maybe that green glowing effect, because there’s no way that conventional munitions could take out the hordes of alien mechs normally.

This episode wasn’t nearly as silly as some of the previous ones. Probably the silliest moment was near the end of the episode when Bravern is doing a big introduction and literally is projecting his animated backdrop for dramatic effect:

We have managed to come all the way to Japan and actually find some surviving military personnel. Smith is already trying to schmooze up some ladies, even if unintentionally. And we finally have some amount of confirmation that Lulu is basically the pilot of the enemy mech, Superbia. More light should be shed on that next episode.

This show continues to simultaneously baffle and impress me. I was thinking about it after this episode. Lewis is the one desperate to be a hero, watching sentai shows with Lulu because that is what he is into. However, when the super robot shows up, it is the super serious Isami that is chosen to be its pilot. Isami and Smith essentially represent the two tones of this show. Isami being the super gritty, dark, war is hell depiction. Smith being the upbeat, heroic, superpower depiction. However, the two are almost miscast in their own show. It should all feel out of place, but it somehow works so well.

I hope that after this big battle, and now that Superbia can talk, it can have a bit of a sillier tone next episode. This episode was just really focused on the action set piece and the almost complete destruction of Japan. Next episode, the showdown with Superbia should lean a bit more into the silly Super Robot side of the show I think.
