Note: In the screenshot, the military are waterboarding a space robot to get information. It’s what they know how to do…
So many hilarious scenes this episode including the waterboarding of Superbia. Great picture choice. I was flipping through the episode to find a screenshot and had just settled on my choice. Then I tabbed back to this community and you had beat me by a couple minutes. For the record, the shot I had picked out was this one:
So, we finally have an origin story of Lulu, and it is a tragic one. They are “generated” for use by the robots and then their life force is consumed and released as energy for the attacks. I bet something similar is going on with Isami/Bravern, but this is why Bravern always tries to hype up or get Isami to become passionate about what he is doing. Maybe Bravern figured out that passion produces energy in a more sustainable way. Something analogous to Monsters Inc. fear vs. laughter.
There was a lot of talk also about dreams coming true this episode by both of the Deathdrives. I don’t really know what is going on with this thread of the plot yet, but it seems like it will become more important as we go, especially now that Superbia is joining the crew (it seems).
Finally, there is “more than meets the eye”™ when it comes to Bravern. I suspect that Bravern has knowledge of future events. He has consistently assured Isami that something will happen, and then it does as well as always creating just the right tool/weapon before it is needed. He also knows a whole heck of a lot about Smith. The same Smith whose primary driving character trait is that he wants to be a hero, and second character trait seems to be that he respects Isami. Hmmmm…
This show has been such a blast. I was dying laughing at the Bravern hijinks when he was fighting on the tower. Looking forward to more as it goes.
PS: Here was another candidate screenshot for the discussion thread I was going to make:
One of the screenshots I was considering was from the brief flash of Bravern cutting pieces off a sprue as if he was assembling a model kit, like a Gunpla fan.
That’s absolutely ridiculous when you realize that the sprue and kit probably came out of that 3D printer in his workshop, and if you have one of those, you really don’t need to put parts on sprues…
Yes! That visual was so funny. I actually had to go back and rewatch that bit to make sure of what it was. It goes by so quick.
In general, the comedy writing in this show is really well done. Jokes fly by and are mixed seamlessly with visual gags and everybody plays the straight man. We even had a fourth wall break this episode when one of the pilots said “Isn’t this when someone says impossible” and then 5 seconds later, the admiral says exactly that. I am on mobile atm or I would pull up screenshots.
