As an entertainment, this is just barely watchable.
But to someone who watched Formula 1 racing regularly, there are several problems with this episode that don’t portend well as to how this series is written:
There are several errors with how professional racing is conducted, suggesting the writers haven’t watched much racing footage:
-
The main character Rin, is supposed to be this great at this online formula racing videogame. Okay, fair enough she doesn’t have any real racing experience, but even online videogame racers know some basic racing protocol, such as blue flags meaning to pull over and let faster cars past, how not to flatspot your tires by spinning your car recklessly, etc.
-
The director skipped showing qualifying, which is actually one of the tenser moments in the racing weekend broadcasts
Anime does have a long history of un-realistic racing shows: Mach Go Go Go/Speed Racer, Machine Hayabusa, Arrow Emblem Gran Prix No Taka, etc. but with this show, passing over any relation to realistic racing doesn’t result in a coherent story.
This is especially disappointing for a show whose aesthetics hew so close to long-running Formula racing so familiar to its many viewers.
Rin, our MC, just looks like an idiot out there who is going to get herself killed, or even worse, get someone else killed with her.
Still, there’s something that I can’t put that makes me want to watch the next episode…
That being said, this show does have a rockin’ OP ADRENALIZED by Nana Mizuki https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ8kXxwdDe8
The ED, Fanfare by SCANDAL isn’t bad either https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFI7Lj1WTHY
Done!
