Emily Baden said her former neighbors, Justice Samuel Alito and his wife Martha-Ann, used a "power imbalance" to "harass and intimidate" her and her husband.Baden made the comments after news reports indicated that the two couples had a spat, which led to Martha-Ann flying a U.S. flag upside down li...
In a way that is less terrifying than a smaller imbalance could be. Like if your neighbor is a cop or maybe a municipal judge in your town, they can really mess with you. But a SCOTUS justice–what are they going to do? Grant emergency cert to your opponent from some Internet debate? Good luck with that, Alito. I’m just me but it doesn’t sound like much to worry about.
If it was me, I’d be worried that Alito would use his contacts/indirect power. You don’t get on SCOTUS without a TON of networking. Side benefit: plausible deniability since it isn’t direct retaliation.
Uh…what ? They have connections to every law enforcement officer around you, every prosecutor, every everything.
One phone call and lots of higher ups will be happy to handle a “favor” for a supreme court judge.
I thought the allegations were that the Alitos were using the extra security officers given to them as part of the intimidation. Armed officers are always a danger.
Hard disagree.
Alito can call the agency responsible for protecting them (Supreme court police? Marshals?) and say you threatened him.
Who’re they really going to believe? Richness whitendude who sits on the top court or random newly weds?
That’s like swatting on steroids and they’ll just pass it off as a mere misunderstanding
