Two big movers in the top 10 this week. First is Elusive Samurai, which I have heard good things about, but hasn’t really generated any discussion in this community yet. Might be worth checking out if I drop some other shows as the season goes. The second big mover is Monogatari. I haven’t watched any of the Monogatari shows (read a bit of the manga adaptation), so I am glad it seems to be scratching that Monogatari itch for the people that are watching it.

Happy to see Elusive Samurai jump up like this. I think it probably got overlooked before the season started because it’s a historical fiction starring real historical figures (I did not learn this until after episode 2 because I don’t pay attention), but I’ve heard the sakuga sections have been circulating and I suspect that’s why it’s picking up speed. Cloverworks is going ham with this one and I hope it gets the attention it deserves.

For reference, and without too much spoiler content, here’s what the show is up to

I suspect that you are right about it getting largely overlooked in the West for that reason. That animation does look stellar though. I think this is now at the top of my mid-season pickup list when I end up dropping a show or two (looking at you My Wife Has No Emotion…).

I don’t know why Wistoria is rated so highly here—I mean, it isn’t awful, but it isn’t terribly brilliant or original, either. Then again, nothing else I’m watching is on this list at all. So it may just be that my tastes overlap with the voters’ even less than usual this season.
