    Only if I give them my email address. So not entirely free. The cost is giving away personal data, or wasting my time with a throwaway email

      Interesting… that’s a new thing and a stupid thing. NYT gift articles are still actual gifts

        Then it checks to see if your email is already registered with them. Then you get a popup that says ‘check your email’ and presumably links back to it. This happens for new and existing addresses.

        Unsurprisingly ‘getfucked@google(.)com’ was already taken.

        Firefox with uBO worked fine, that signup element is blocked, and you aren’t prevented from reading the page.

      If you have a subscription to Apple News, I believe Washington post is included. Open link in browser, then share to Apple News to open it there.

      Sometimes it even lets you read it without a News+ subscription.

      Just a possible workaround, not really an excuse for WP.
