We call that theocracy or theofascism (a more modern portmanteau). Religion is immensely useful for theocrats and fascists, because it has defacto in- and out-groups plus magic, superstition, and taboos—prime ingredients for making shit up in the name of power.
It is also worth noting that Christianity has been especially bad for climate change action, because even among progressive Christians, there’s a belief that their god will intervene.
