Donald Trump may have a card up his sleeve for an "October surprise," and J.D. Vance should be worried, a conservative columnist said Saturday.During an appearance on MSNBC over the weekend, columnist Jennifer Rubin — a loyal conservative until Donald Trump came along — was asked about the impact ...
It’s possible, but I think Trump’s instinctual disdain for people with something “wrong” with them might make him unlikely to pick RFK Jr just because of how he talks. Trump is certainly that superficial.
Beyond that, two problems: 1) filling deadlines for state ballots (differs for each state), and 2) RNC 2020 rules the dictate if a there’s nominee or running mate vacancy, it is filled by the RNC or voted on at a rerun of their national convention.
TBH, I think Trump would love the chaos and media coverage of a second national convention. So the real problem is mostly the ballots. Otherwise, I could definitely see Trump changing his VP nomination late and then trying to ride a (second) RNC national convention bounce into the election. He’s certainly desperate enough to try anything.
The dead lines for names on the ballots will have passed in many states. Ohio deadline has passed already.
That deadline doesn’t actually matter. It just means that Vance would be written on the ballot, not that he needs to stop be the candidate.
