I can’t tell you how many times I said something like this only for a week’s worth of work to be wasted when I messed up an experiment in grad school. Some experiments I was doing would take up to a month of different preparation steps before I got to look at the finished product under a microscope and see if it worked or not. I was really jealous of the folks in my department that just got to analyze data coming from the LHC instead of prepping everything themselves.
